Used traditionally for generations, tallow is experiencing a modern return to skincare. But KOYU takes the idea further.

Human sebum, our skin's own protective oil, is rich in fatty acids like oleic and palmitic acid. Wagyu tallow shares several of these same fatty acids, closely mirroring skin's own chemistry. It works with skin rather than sitting on top of it.

But KOYU isn't simply tallow in a jar. We combine Wagyu tallow with carefully selected skincare actives to create dedicated formulas for different moments of the day.

Not all tallow is created equal

Understand Wagyu and you understand KOYU.

Wagyu ("wa" = Japanese, "gyu" = cattle) has been bred in Japan for centuries, prized for its unique genetic ability to marble fat within the muscle, not just around it.

This marbling is intramuscular fat, making it a genuinely different, richer, more evenly distributed fat than standard breeds.

Wagyu is raised under exceptionally high welfare and husbandry standards, with meticulous attention to diet, environment and stress reduction.

Koyu was founded by a third generation farmer, searching for a more sustainable future for the family farm. That search led to Wagyu, and to an accidental discovery: its tallow was nutrient rich and remarkably compatible with human skin. Koyu began there.
