Wagyu tallow
What is Wagyu tallow skincare?
Skincare built around rendered Wagyu fat. Human sebum, the skin's own protective oil, is rich in fatty acids like oleic and palmitic acid. Wagyu tallow shares several of these same fatty acids, closely mirroring skin's own chemistry, so it works with skin rather than sitting on top of it. KOYU formulates it with peptides, ceramides, botanical oils and antioxidants.
Why Wagyu tallowIs it greasy?
No. Wagyu tallow melts at skin temperature, so it sinks in on contact with no greasy residue and no waiting. Kinu, the hand cream, is rich but fast-absorbing.
Does it smell of anything?
The tallow is rendered and purified before it is formulated, so the creams do not carry a savoury note. Ask us if you would like to know more about the scent of a particular formula.
Is it suitable for vegetarians or vegans?
No. Every formula is made with Wagyu tallow, so the range is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans.
Where does the tallow come from?
One place, one lineage, traceable back to a single origin farm. Commodity tallow is blended from countless untraceable sources; ours is not.
The storyIs it tested on animals?
Animal testing of cosmetics and their ingredients is banned in the UK and we do not test on animals. Ask us if you want the detail on any ingredient.
Using the range
Which one should I start with?
Hikari for the morning, Yoru for the night, Kinu for hands. If you want one jar, start with the moment of the day you most want to change. If you want the whole day, The Futatsu Ritual is day and night and The Mittsu Ritual adds hands.
The ritualsHow do I use Hikari?
Each morning, on clean skin. Lift a little with the spatula, let it warm on the fingertips and press it in, face and neck.
How do I use Yoru?
Each night, the last step. A little more than the morning, warmed and pressed in. Let it work while you sleep.
How do I use Kinu?
Whenever hands need it. A pea-sized amount, worked in from the back of the hand to the fingertips. It melts on contact and sinks in.
What is the spatula for?
A small gold skincare spatula comes with every face cream. It lifts the right amount without a fingertip in the jar, and it warms as it touches the skin, a small pause before the ritual begins.
Is it suitable for sensitive skin?
Everyone's skin is different. As with any new skincare, try a little on the inner arm first and wait a day. If anything feels wrong, stop using it and write to us.
Can I use it with other products?
Yes. Hikari goes on after cleansing in the morning and under sun protection; Yoru is the last step at night. Hikari contains glycolic acid, so if you use other acids or retinoids, alternate them.
How long does a jar last?
A 50 ml jar of Hikari or Yoru used once a day lasts around two months. Keep the lid on, out of direct sunlight, and use within twelve months of opening.

Can I send it as a gift?
Yes. On each product's page you can add gift wrap and a handwritten card, and in your bag you can write a gift note that travels with the order. The rituals come in the marbled, foil-stamped box.
GiftingCan I return it?
Unopened products in their original condition can be returned within 14 days of delivery for a refund; write to us first so we can arrange it. For reasons of hygiene, opened skincare cannot be returned unless faulty. If anything arrives damaged, email us within 48 hours with a photograph and your order number.
